Barbican Centre

Chamberlin, Powell and Bon

In the heart of London, the Barbican Centre stands as a striking example of Brutalist architecture and a monumental vision of modern urban life. Designed by Chamberlin, Powell and Bon in the 1950s and completed in 1982, the complex was conceived as a new kind of city within the city, bringing together homes, culture and public space in one interconnected structure. Rising from an area once devastated by war, it became one of the most ambitious projects of British modernism.

This series explores the Barbican as both an architectural statement and a lived environment. Its concrete towers, elevated walkways and water gardens form a dense network that continually transforms with light, weather and movement. Amid its raw geometry, moments of stillness and clarity appear, revealing how material and form influence the way we experience space.
